FAQ

How often do I feed my puppy?

We free feed our puppies, meaning we leave food and water out for them all day and just take it away about an hour before bed time. They are not used to eating a lot at once. They just eat a little at a time all throughout the day. You can do this or ask your vet what he or she recommends.

WHAT IS MY PUPPY USED TO SLEEPING IN?

We suggest purchasing a puppy gate from a pet store that is about as high up as your waist. You can put this in your kitchen area or anywhere you have hard surface flooring, that’s easy to clean.

You can place a food and water dish, blanket to sleep on, toys, and some pee pads or a litter box with Purina Paper Pellets at the back of the fenced off area. This is a perfect place to contain your puppy when you have to leave or unable to watch them closely until he/she is completely potty trained!  You can also put a crate in there with the door left open if you’d like.

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO TRAVEL BACK HOME WITH MY PUPPY?

Your little one will most likely want to be on someone’s lap on the way home. But if he/she gets restless, and needs to go potty, we recommend bringing a large/medium plastic storage container (like what you’d store Christmas decorations in) with pee pads in the bottom. You can put your puppy right in there to potty. And as soon as he/she is done, I’m sure he/she will want right back out to sit on your lap again. It’s works really slick!  Bring some paper towels and some small bags you can put the soiled pee pad in, and throw away. Do NOT put your puppy down on the ground anywhere but in your own yard. Not even in a parking lot or side of the road. Do NOT set him/her down anywhere. They are not fully vaccinated at this point and the Parvo virus is so deadly to little puppies. They will need all their shots before they can be let down anywhere other than your yard. The virus can live in the ground for up to two years. So please don’t take that risk!  They should be done with their shots at 16 weeks of age, or soon after that. They need a shot every 3-4 weeks. Not sooner than 3 weeks from the last shot and not later than 4.

WILL MY PUPPY BE STARTED ON CRATE TRAINING?

No!  We do not crate train our puppies. Our puppies live in our home in fenced off areas. We expand their areas as they grow and need more room to play. They sleep all together in a big dog pile. I’d suggest searching the internet for ideas on how to crate train your puppy if you choose to do that.

WHAT IS THE BEST BRUSH TO USE ON MY PUPPY?

Chris Christiensen Big G Slicker Brush. Being a hair dresser for many years, I have researched and tried out at least 30 different dog brushes and combs to brush out these sweet fur babies. I finally found one that works amazingly well and will last you years!  It’s pricey but well worth purchasing one. It will be the only brush you’ll ever need!  A comb is also nice to have for their little faces and places it’s hard to brush!  We love the Paul Mitchell Wild Ginger shampoo. It works great and has a great smell that lasts for several days. Keep the hair trimmed up around their potty places to keep them cleaner!  You can get a tiny trimmer or just use scissors to keep the hair short!  They can’t clean themselves very well when the hair is super thick down there. :)
